Pool homes near a golf course in Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs are not too hard to find. There are plenty of golf courses in the area, with courses suitable for all levels of ability, from short courses in 55+ communities to championship courses with a PGA quality layout, such as Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course, home to the PGA’s Valspar Championship. This is a fine example of Palm Harbor golf course homes. Of course, if all you want is golf, that’s fine and you will be more than satisfied with the wide range of courses available. If you are looking for more than golf, such as water sports, the Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs area is perfect. Tarpon Springs is home to the world famous Sponge Docks with gift shops offering interesting items from corals to sand dollars to natural sponges and even hand made soaps. There are several charter fishing boat options available, with “head” boats taking out large parties for an economical day of deep sea fishing to private charters for small groups that will challenge your fishing skills. When you return to the docks, the crew will clean your fish for you so you can then take home dinner! Or, you could bring your catch to any of several local restaurants that will cook your freshly caught fish to order for a wonderful end to your day. There is even a live sponge boat tour that actually brings up real sponges to give you an idea of what real sponge fishing is all about.

The Sponge Docks of Tarpon Springs is a working fishing village, home to a fleet of shrimp boats and sponge fishermen. Several restaurants serve fresh fish of the day. There area seafood markets that have the freshest seafood that is locally caught for the best eating experience and they offer seafood that is not usually available at your local supermarkets. If the Sponge Docks of Tarpon Springs aren’t enough, there are the beaches. Sunset Beach park is a wonderful and under-used location with palm trees to offer some shade, plenty of space for a family picnic and wonderful location to view the spectacular sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico each evening. If you are looking for a park with more amenities, there is Fred Howard Park, with plenty of spaces for picnics, kayaking, fishing, parking and there are public restrooms. Take the day or just go for the sunset, you won’t be disappointed. Then, if you prefer the calmer waters of a freshwater lake, there is A.L Anderson Park on Lake Tarpon. Anderson Park has a free boat ramp that can accommodate more than one boat at a time. The ramp in in a protected cove and just outside the cove is Tarpon Lake and seven miles of expanse for skiing, quiet cruising or fishing for possible record sized bass. There are several covered picnic areas that can be reserved for group outings, with bbq grills at each. There is plenty of shade throughout the park to help keep you comfortable. The nature trails meander around the lake and if you are alert, you can spot an alligator or two, especially during the summer months.  Plenty of wildlife live around Lake Tarpon, including bald eagles. Just to see one is a magnificent feeling. Or head just to the south of Tarpon Springs to Palm Harbor.

We’ve already mentioned Innisbrook and its Copperhead Course. Did we say there are 3 other championship courses and a par 36 Fox Squirrel course created for all ages and ideal for introducing non-golfers to this incredible sport. Fox Squirrel is a 9-hole walking course opening at 4 pm daily.

A bit more to the west of Innisbrook is the Gulf of Mexico. Palm Harbor has several waterfront communities, from Baywood Village, with a network of saltwater canals leading to the Gulf, to Ozona, a Gulf front community with spectacular views of the open Gulf. Just off shore is Three Rooker Bar, Three Rooker Baran island about 2 miles from the mainland that is great for weekend parties and on holiday weekends, many large groups boat out to the island for fishing and plenty of fun. There are also several outstanding restaurants providing plenty of local favorite foods. Among these are Ozona Pig, Ozona Blue, Mystic Fish Seafood Grill, Peggy O’Neils, Thirsty Marlin, Molly Goodheads and so many more. Each offers a unique atmosphere and a welcome change from the national chains.
